Where to begin with describing my love for The Beekeeper of Aleppo? This book was so captivating and moving that I would definitely rank this as one of the best books that I have ever read. The author has such a powerful way of storytelling that I was so deeply compelled by the story of Nuri and his wife, Afra. Nuri and Afra live in the city of Aleppo, where Nuri is a beekeeper and Afra works as an artist. Their lives are thrown into turmoil as a result of the violence in Syria, causing Afra to go blind. Frightened for their safety and desperately seeking peace, they leave Aleppo and undertake a perilous journey across Europe to reach Britain, where they hope to join Nuri's cousin Mustafa in Yorkshire. Mustafa teaches many of their fellow refugees about beekeeping and how cathartic and healing it can be. I was so moved and compelled by The Beekeeper of Aleppo, it is one of my few five star reviews, I cannot wait to read Songbirds by the same author!
