I LOVED this book, and honestly more than I thought I would, despite reading good reviews beforehand. The Beekeeper of Aleppo tells the story of Nuri and his family, and their journey from their war-stricken home in Syria, seeking refuge in the UK.

I enjoyed the style of writing, with the narrative switching between the current-day Nuri with his wife Afra, and their time together leading up to them fleeing from their home country. The story is truly heartbreaking, and the author definitely conveys the true emotion well, likely due to her own experiences with refugee parents and their history.

The story line based around Nuri and Afra's son, Sami, is heart-breaking and this book really does convey the 'other side' of the refugee crisis to it's readers; I was definitely made aware of how naive I was to this before reading the book. Highly, highly recommend to others.
