I read this book after seeing a number of 5* reviews on social media including a particular book club I follow on Instagram. So I just had to buy myself a copy and see what all the fuss was about. And my goodness, I'm so pleased I did. This is such a moving, painful, heartbreaking story about refugees who travel from Syria through Europe and eventually arrive in the UK. It gave me such a fresh perspective on what on earth drives people who have to leave their homes and how they cope on the journey. It also revealed to me that the journey doesn't end when they arrive in their final destination and the pain continues long after they stop fleeing. It is a really beautifully written book and I love the way the chapters are linked together by a single word. I think about this book often and have recommended it to many of my friends. It is my opinion that this is a book that everyone should read so that our understanding and compassion for refugees can increase.
