This was not a book I would normally pick up and read. However the narrative is written with such haunting beauty that immediately the reader has an emotional connection to Afra and Nuri. It is a difficult read not because of the writing but because of the subject matter, which shows the terrible ways human beings can treat each other, and the atrocities of war and how they affect the innocent.
