This book tells the story of Nuri and Afra who live in Aleppo. The story begins in the city and we learn about how the conflict has affected their lives. More and more friends begin to escape and it becomes a question of whether they should too. We then get to follow them on their journey across Europe to safety. This book moved me in a way that’s hard to explain. It’s very easy to see the news and the refugees camps and forget that these represent people. People who have fled their homes and been separated from their friends and family in the hope of a better life. The story was beautiful and touching and just incredible. Everyone should read it to understand better what is going on and to make the world a little more compassionate.
