I really enjoyed this book. It tells a story of Syrian refugees and their difficult journey from war destroyed Syria. We read about old Syria before the war and we learn what it's like to experience the war in present times. Their journey is difficult, at times sad. But there are also moments when they learn so much about each other and themselves and the world. I loved the story and I loved reading the book written from the refugee perspective. Their struggles and fears are so real. It put my own life in a very different perspective - reading it in my cosy flat - it just showed me there are people like Nuri and Afra who struggle right at this moment to find a new home, a new place to feel safe and to start a new life again.
The writing style is lovely. I enjoyed the way book alternated chapters between the present and the past which helps you get to know characters much better. It also makes you understand their decisions better.
