This was a truly wonderful and heartbreaking read. The story weaves in and out of present and past, following Nuri a beekeeper and his wife Afra, on their long journey to seek asylum in England.
This story is an eye opener, it’s a step back from the headlines we see on the news, and gives a honest insight to the realities of being a refugee.

It is beautifully written, descriptive but not overly, it’s hard not to feel the pain and emotions of the characters in this book. It definitely made me shed a tear.

The only bad thing I have to say about this book is the ending, it ended so quickly, I’d like to know what happens to Nuri and Afra, do they get granted asylum? Does Afra gain her sight back? I feel like I need more, like just a chapter or two a few months on from where the story ends. We read about their struggles, their hurt, their survival I’d like to think they found some way to be happy again.
