This is the type of book I normally read and it certainly did not disappoint. It’s about Nessie Carson whose life is very hard when her mum is murdered and her dad does not want to know Nessie must protect her younger brother Joseph. Seth her landlord is horrible but he wants Nessie and he will stop at nothing to get her. Her younger sister Marcie goes off to work as a maid and brings shame on the family. Nessie is attracted to the doctor but knows they cannot be together as they are both fro different backgrounds and class. This is a very warm pleasurable book of happiness, hard work and how you should be grateful for what you have in life and how hard times were for people back then a great read
