In Warwickshire 1865 Nellie Carson has to keep her family together after the death of her mother and her father abandoning the family, Nellie has no choice but to leave their home after they are evicted. Nellie and her brothers and sisters take on jobs as live in assistants in a local undertakers. I’ve always enjoyed Rosie Goodwin books and this is another one added to the favourites. From the moment I read about Nellie, I believed in her story, struggling to keep what’s left of her family doing what jobs they could find. There are times of darkness but with Nellies spirit she’s able to find the light and happiness to keep going for her family. I found the storyline gripping but easy to follow and never wanted to put the book down.
