An intriguing start as we wonder why the brother and sister have been kept apart for 40 years and why a completely different set of characters from 60 years ago have been introduced. Also liked the way the section/chapter titles were introduced like the front cover of a personal diary/diary page, while the opening paragraph was effective at setting the scene and drawing the reader into the story.
