This extract goes straight into the characters without setting a scene and that was the first confusing aspect. I felt unable to follow from there on. I'm not a huge fan of historical fiction and for me to enjoy a story from this genre I find it has to be exceptional for me to want to read it. This extract did not hook me. I found this extract to be quite flat so it did not hold my interest. It's possibly good for people who already like this genre but I feel like this extract is not going to win over new fans.
