I wasn't sure if this book would appeal to me as the cover didn't draw me in. However, I was pleasantly surprised and found the writing quite engaging. I liked the (nostalgia-inducing!) descriptions of settings. The audacity of the protagonist, spying on neighbours with binoculars in the opening pages, also makes me want to know more about their backstory.
