Stuart Evers's book not only has an eye-catching cover and title, but a plot and timeframe that appeals greatly to me as a 20th-century historian. Set after World War II and around the time of the Cold War at the end of the 1950s and the ever-present threat of nuclear war. The study of the servicemen Drummond Moore and James Carter, two very different characters who become friends, sounds intriguing enough. However, the most fascinating and usual aspect of this book is that it covers six separate decades in British history, covering the more unusual and everyday aspects of being a Brit at this time. The cover looks both modern and retro, suggesting that these issues are not confined to one timeframe, which is certainly the case.
