This magnificent story pulls on the heartstrings of even the toughest of souls. This story is about Drummond Moore, he meets James Carter and in my opinion meets the love of his life, Gwen. The details and rich descriptions in the novel make the time periods feel authentic and come alive, particularly the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. This is brilliantly structured storytelling, about all that it is to be human and flawed, class, friendship, marriage, family, being a parent, family dynamics, behaviour and decisions made when a person has little idea as to their consequences in the future. The cover is what drew me in the most, I particularly love how the cover is very grey but the women dresses are yellow which could be inferred that they were the light and joy that brought the soldiers home. I would love to read more of this book and indulge in this marvellous masterpiece that Stuart Evers created.
