I was really excited to receive an arc of this book - I'd heard many good things about it and the blurb sounded great - my kind of book. And yet it left me feeling flat. Largely character driven, but I didn't particularly feel engaged with those characters, and didn't feel a connection with the characters strong enough to actually care what was happening to them.
The plot is slow paced, to the point of inertia at times and I found it didn't capture my attention to motivate me to read on. I really struggled to pick the book up and carry on, and in fact at times I almost gave up, but ploughed on as that only feels fair to judge an arc in it's totality, rather than dismiss it based on an early reaction. Unfortunately my opinion didn't change as the book went on, although I've seen many reviews which are much more positive so I'm sure it will find an audience - it just wasn't for me.
