This book was not at all what I expected but it’s the most compelling book I have read this year.

I was drawn to the book because it covers my own life span and it has certainly opened my eyes to the impact of events happening during my earliest years.

It is one thing to know your history, it is quite another to be shown how history impacted families and friendships, and how events resonate through the years. Until now, with the exception of Greenham Common, I have never really thought about people living in fear of a nuclear war.

I found the style unusual and I was quite surprised to find that I liked it. I see some have bemoaned the style – disjointed is a word I have seen used often. But, dear readers, life doesn’t happen like a novel. I found that style suited the story.

This book will stay with me and it is certainly one that I shall revisit.

Thank you to Readers First, Picador and Stuart Evers for the ARC in return for my honest review.
