I found this book interesting and at times difficult to read. I give it three stars because I still read the full thing in its hefty entirety and for the most part enjoyed it. I found myself wishing to read further from some points of view such as Annie and Gwen at times as I found their inner monologues to be the most intriguing. I also greatly enjoyed how I felt we lost touch with Annie as the book progressed as this is what happened between her and her parents but I struggled with the flatness this book made me feel.

It felt at times disjointed like it could have been so much more than it was. This is not a slight on the author as I know he is award winning. I however feel this book just did not make me feel empty after I finished it like a good book always makes me feel. Rather I felt relief to have finally ended the journey of Drum's life because it just felt oh so flat and empty and just so normal. Perhaps this was the way it was supposed to make you feel.
