This sounded so good from the blurb but I found it such a dull read overall.
It starts in the late 1950s where Drummond meets the well to do Carter while they are both doing their military service.
Though from totally different backgrounds and life experiences they strike up a friendship.
They age, finish the national service and get married and in time have children.
Civilian life doesn't change the friendship that was formed during their time on the Doom town military base.
Though it is fraught at times they both seem to need and depend on the other and this strikes a chord down the years when it even affects their children and their future.
The whole novel spans nearly seventy years of family history.
The whole concept was a good one in theory its just it somehow didn't work for me,
It wasn't my favourite read overall and was disappointed as the write up sounded so good.
