The Blind Light is a big, hefty hardback and, I confess, I found it's size a little off putting
Size aside it is a well written and crafted book. A story of two families that spans six decades. A story of two very different families - their only link being the male heads. Carter and Drum met as squaddies and forged an unbreakable friendship. A friendship that survives marriage and world events.
It's a strange tale really as it refers to lots of real events and includes several cultural references that will be familiar but not a massive amount really happens.
It's a slow and quite lyrical burn and, ultimately, wasn't my cup of tea. Sadly I found it a bit of a slog at times. It does provide a very interesting look at relationships though - family and friendships are really put under the microscope and the saying "revenge is a dish best served cold" really is particularly pertinent in this story.
