I was drawn to read the first look of this book initially by the cover which I found very striking.

Being a fan of murder mysteries and cryptic clues this seemed to be the perfect read for me and the initial pages did not dissapoint.

The central character is a Rector and he gets drawn into a bit of sleuthing when a body is dumped on his doorstep. He keeps the clue of the victim's last three words to himself and intends to find out who he was find and why he was killed.

The historical narrative moves along at a good pace and adds well to the overall setting of smuggling and dark deeds on Romney Marsh.

I shall definitely be reading the rest of the book, it will be a perfect fireside read for the winter months ahead.
