My sister got both this book and the second in the series for real cheap and for a while they rotted on her bookshelves. So, not knowing what to read one day, I picked up this book and started to give it a read.

I'll be the first to admit this book is not really what I'm interested in. Sure, I'll read books set before electricity, but they're not my favourite. And sure, I'll read mystery/thrillers, but again, they're not really my favourites. So, combining them both was giving me a bit of déjà vu for the Stalking Jack the Ripper series (which wasn't that great if I'm honest, and got worse the more the books went on, but again that's for a different review on a different day).

So I started reading the book.
And I didn't make it past the first chapter.

Maybe it was a combination of the two lack of interests, but personally, I think it was the fact that the chapter was so boring. I just couldn't find myself being entertained by it. Sure, a body turns up on a doorstep (heh) but I just found myself seeking other entertainment. And I wasn't the only one. My sister, who bought these books with every intention of reading them, because she loves both mystery/thrillers and historical fiction, found them boring as well. So into the donation pile they went, and no more was spoken about them.
