This is the story of how a woman, in her thirties, manages to make a fresh start to her life. She does this by moving to London and managing her uncle`s shop while he is very unwell.
As a child Jo would enjoy visiting her favourite uncle in his hardware and stationary shop. She would spend her time there playing in the stationary area of the shop and pretending that this was her own Post Office. She grew up with a love of stationary.
As an adult Jo`s life did not work out well, she has recently split up with her boyfriend of six years and she has fallen out with her best friend. When her mother told her of her uncle`s illness, Jo decided to leave her job in a bank and go and live in her uncle`s flat above his shop. The shop was situated in an alleyway with a couple of other shops as neighbours.
Jo soon finds that she is soon making new and interesting friends , fellow shopkeepers and her own customers including a lady vicar who had been in the news some time ago , because she had gone missing.
