This book had me gripped from the beginning. I absolutely loved the main character Jo, simply for being so real. The other key characters who become so important to her are also great, but it is the interactions between them the really thread throughout the book and make you want to know more.
Whilst the main setting is a particular interest of mine (stationery shops) the backdrop of Highgate cemetery adds a historical perspective which really adds depth to the storyline. Not only do we get a social history of the area, we also get to see how that continues to impact on people’s lives today. A very rich reminder of the realities we are all facing and that we never know what is going on behind a smiley facade.
I loved this book - I also loved Sally Pages previous book “the keeper of stories” so I wasn’t surprised. I would recommend both to anyone - and in any order. Such wonderful reads!
