This book opens with an intriguing glimpse into Jo’s life that leaves you with more questions than answers. The interaction between her and her customers in the hardware store is a thoughtful portrayal of an every day situation which gives you a glimpse into Jo’s personality (a love of fountain pens!), her sense of humour and glimpses of her past - hinting at betrayal and loss but with a touch of lightheartedness.
You are left wanting more - what happened to her relationships with her best friend and boyfriend , why is she the one to look after the hardware shop on her own and what has she left behind?
I immediately got lost in the world if Jo and I can’t wait to read what happens next and learn more about the characters in the shop and the situation that Jo finds herself in as well as learning why the book itself is called The Book of Beginnings.
