This story is like a good cup of tea. I would recommend it to those who are looking for something to warm the heart as the autumn cold begins to set in. The story itself takes place mainly throughout autumn and ends in winter so it is perfect to get settled in to the current season. The stationery shop was the icing on the cake for myself, as I am sure it will be for many other bookworms too.

Jo, Ruth and Malcolm made a lovely little found family at the centre of this story. All the characters were very compelling with beautifully crafted backstories (even if we were left waiting a while for one character's past in particular to be fully revealed!). The characters are the true heart of this book, showing that even when life may feel hopeless and you've lost your way, as long as you are surrounded by people who appreciate you for you then all will be well.

While I was enthralled by our main character's stories, I found myself trawling through the pages focusing on the character's in Malcolm's own book. I understand it built on the theme of unlikely friendship but I found it distracting from the main story. The end felt a little rushed and could have done with a tad more scaffolding but overall a happy heart warming read.
