Christy Lefteri has a really beautiful way of writing, they’re full of warmth, heart and imagery. It is a book of devastation and love, and as with her other novels an ending of hope.

The book centres on a Greek village devastated by a fire, with the book following one family and the scars they suffered as a result. These are both physical and mental scars, and through the book readers can see the results to the characters. I liked Irini’s character, she is struggling yet is trying to be there for her husband and daughter, as well as allowing her to journal the events of the day. Her love for her daughter is a beautiful highlight in this story.

There were moments where it felt a little repetitive, as the story did not move as fast in some parts, but the author’s style of writing works even in these moments. Just as with her other novels it is a thought provoking book. She is one of my auto-read authors.
