After a fire that destroys a whole village, Irini has to face a new reality, one where her husband is silent and joyless and her daughter has lost her childhood spirit.

When Irini spots the man who starts the fire, on a woodland walk, she makes a decision that could change her family's future forever.

The book of fire retells the tragedy of the fire and also explores how the family is learning to cope with their new reality.

The concept of the book of fire was a good one, but in my opinion, fell short. I did enjoy reading it, but there were times where the story was slow to develop. None of the characters were particularly likeable - so I found it hard to connect with any of them, although there were none I disliked particularly either.

Although the storyline was sound in itself, there was no big page-turning event that I would have expected, so I wasn't constantly reaching for the book to see what happens next.
