Irini, her husband Tasso and their daughter Chara live in a Greek village, which is surrounded by forest. One day a fire rages through the forest destroying the village and killing many of the locals. It transpires that the fire had been started deliberately by a man who wished to use some land to build holiday accommodation; permission had not been granted but he had decided to reclaim the land from the forest and forge ahead anyway.
We join Irini some time after the fire and she tells us about what happened then, and what is happening now, whilst also penning her own 'fairytale' of the fire and its aftermath - Irini's self-penned fairytale is entitled 'The Book of Fire' - the book is spilt into chapters narrated by Irini, and chapters entitled 'The Book of Fire' - Irini's fairytale.
Christy Lefteri writes such beautiful, emotional books and this one is no different, well worth a read.
