The book is set in could be modern day Cyprus, and we follow the main character, Irini, and her family in two viewpoints: one in the 'present day' and one following the aftermath of a devastating event in her and her families life. It's a very topical book, and touches on a lot of themes relevant to a lot of places across the world today.

The quality of the rest of the book was consistent with the first look - very captivating and drawing you into the story. It was easy to read and get sucked into the story. The writing created very vivid settings, and you felt yourself dropped into the world of the villagers.

I really enjoyed the ending. The mystery running through the present day viewpoint reached its bittersweet conclusion. You really felt yourself emphathising with all the characters and their viewpoints.

I really enjoyed it, and it has encouraged me to explore more of Lefteri's work.
