In the book of fire we are introduced to a Greek family left to deal with the devastation of a deadly wildfire caused by a money-hungry property developer which left their whole village destroyed and left them to deal with the aftermath of the tragedy.

We learn of the impact that the fire has had on the family - both physically and psychologically. The fire has badly burned Tasso's hands, as well as permanently scarring their daughter, Chara's, back.

Irini also carries another heavy burden - the guilt of having discovered the dying Mr Monk (a nickname the villages bestowed upon the wealthy property developer) from hanging from the dying chestnut tree in the burnt forest. We learn of her guilt and feelings of if she should have done more - should she have called an ambulance? And should she make this information know to the investigating police?

Overall this story was a heart-wrenching story of loss and devastation that especially hits home at a time of ever-increasing wildfires across the globe.
