Thank you to the author and Readers First for giving me a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was quite excited to read this one as I have heard so many good things about this author and her other books. I really liked the front cover artwork and was initially quite drawn into the story and its concepts, unfortunately in the end there was just something missing for me. While the storyline itself is totally believable and the subject matter is certainly very important and thought-provoking, I just couldn't get an emotional connection to the main female character and 50 I couldn't feel the story in the right sort of way. It is definitely a story that should and will resonate with many readers, especially as it echoes many current events with wildfires sweeping across several areas of the world as I write. I think it's a necessary and a bold statement to release this book at this time, but for me, it didn't hit home because I couldn't engage with Lefteri's style of writing and her characters. She has got a beautiful descriptive quality when she describes the culture and the landscape of Greece, but the characters just feel like they weren't fully there.
