This book is about the devastating impact a wild fire in Greece has on a family and the aftermath on the people and animals affected. It felt very poignant to read, especially after the widespread wildfires seen around the world this year. The story interchanges between the past at the time of the fire and the present with the family dealing with the aftermath. I did find at times it difficult to keep up with the timeline, because of the timeline jumps I did find myself having to put the book down regularly.
The author has done an absolutely beautiful job of describing and conveying the sadness of the characters emotions. The scenery is painted in such a beautiful way. It is a very sad read but felt very relevant in the current climate and helped me to understand some of the devastating effects that people are currently facing themselves.
