I hadn't read anything of Christy Lefteri yet, although Beekeeper is on my TBR pile. But I think I'm now a convert after this read.

The Book of Fire was poignant, emotional, vivid and challenging. It captures a moment in time where disaster strikes a small community, and Lefteri is incredibly adept at placing the reader at the heart of the action. It is impossible to read this novel and not be immersed in the scenery and events unfolding and this makes for a dramatic read.

We meet Irini, a mother and wife, reflecting on a terrible fire that forces the family and other locals from their homes and the mental fall out of those who survive. Flashing between "The Book of Fire", her journal of recollection told from a narrative perspective, and the real time happenings, we see this tragic event through her eyes and the decisions she makes when faced with the perpetrator who started it.

A thought provoking and riveting read, devoured this in a day. Would recommend!
