Poignant and sadly parallel to real events

As a reader who thoroughly enjoyed the Bee Keeper of Aleppo, I very much looked forward to this book. I enjoy the poignancy and at times almost 'deadness' of feeling and observation from the narrator. The all-consuming fire and all that comes afterwards feels particularly real at the current time with so many fire-related events on huge scales worldwide.

I did feel at times, along with so many books I have read in the last year or so, that the book jumps around in time and place. Whilst I understand a linear story is not always so absorbing, it detracted for me at times, and I found myself re-reading and trying to get back into the mental train of the narration. Even with immersion, reading large sections in one sitting, didn't really help me to stay in the mind-set.

It is a beautifully written tale, without a 'who-dunnit' ending or false trails. I will definitely re-read this book in the future.
