I’m still undecided on my final thoughts on this one as I think Lefteri is a great writer but something was missing for me in this . It took me a while to get into the story and then I found it dragging towards the end .
I really liked rhe vivid descriptions of Greece however I felt bored with the climate change elements of the story .
What Lefteri does well is capture the feelings of humans well , love, sadness, despair, resilience . It’s a sad story but also one of hope .
The narrative moves between the past and present and for me I enjoyed the present day narrative more when we follow irina and her family and friends whilst trying to rebuild the community they have lost . It’s a thought provoking story and one that I think would be good for book club discussions and maybe it work well on screen .
Also I do love the book cover , certainly attracts a reader .
