Irini, Tasso and Chara live a perfect life in Greece in a beautiful village.
Then one day this idyllic life is shattered, burned away by the destructive power of fire.
Their village is razed to the ground and the fire chases everyone all the way down to the shore.
A whole way of living totally wiped out.
Now they and many others who were lucky to survive are struggling to move on and heal.
Chara is badly burned and scarred on her back, Tasso has mental scars of not finding his father and leaving his wife and child on that day to go and save him, Irini has a deep, dark secret for this fire wasn’t a tragedy, a natural disaster or accident.
It was deliberately set and she knows by who and she also knows the fate of that man and his greed for the land.
She did nothing to help and her conscience is condemning her.
Can they all let go of the past and build a fresh future?
This was beautifully written, evocative and lyrical and really challenges a reader to think of moral rights and wrongs, blame and guilt.
A great read.
