I like the structure of the novel.
I like the way that the novel is organised, with each of the chapters representing a new date in the calendar from new year. I think this will be a good indicator of how the cancer develops as well as other key events in Keira’s life.
I think these markers will also frame the different stages in Keira’s life as this new year progresses - her relationships with family, friends and her cancer.
It will be interesting to see at which point Keira comes to terms with the reality of her illness as this is different for every patient. I think the dates that mark each new chapter will be important to other developments in Keira’s life, including birthdays and anniversaries. It will also be interesting to see the impact of her cancer and life as a patient where this infiltrates her everyday exploits.
I hope the novel takes a unique approach to fiction about an illness, particularly one like cancer and it’s realities while demonstrating the suffering individuals have to face life after their illness too.
