Josie Lloyd's The Cancer Ladies' Running Club is undoubtedly an emotional read that has it's inspirational moments. It's a subject that hits close to home, and I think the book would be arguably incomplete without the afterward from Lloyd herself on the subject.

As you can expect from the title, the book follows a group of ladies who all have cancer and start a running club together. We are with Keira and experience her highs and her lows of everyday life. I'm very glad that this included more things than just her journey with cancer, also adding in the sub plot about her business for example hammered the point of the novel home. Kiera's biggest frustration is being viewed differently, as a sick person.

The lack of the novel's focus on cancer directly means that the protagonists of the story are treated with respect, we learn about them and their lives as a whole, not just the one aspect of their lives which is often mistakenly assumed to be a defining feature of a person's identity.

The novel was okay, but I probably wouldn't read it again. It was charming, full of love, friendship and bravery, but it is a swift departure form my usual reading habits which I think meant that I was less able to enjoy it.

Either way, you won't regret reading it. If you are interested in reading the book, give it a go.
