The very first few paragraphs of this book has the reader hooked and desperate to know exactly what happened to Saffron's mother 7 years ago. After all these years Saffron discovers she was lied to about her mother's sudden disappearance. Phyllida Shrimpton knows how to keep her readers interested and, after reading First Impressions, most will feel compelled to read all of this book to get the solution to this mystery. The start of this book is written from the perspective of Saffron who is 17 years old so will certainly appeal to teenagers but just as much to readers of all ages who enjoy reading about families and the mysteries and cover-ups that so often take place. The cover shows a drawing of leaves which resonates very early in the book when Saffron remembers finding a chestnut with her mother. It also has the words 'love, lies and secrets' and these are exactly what the readers will want to discover in this book.
