Intriguing premise but a protagonist I already dislike!
Although I was taken with the premise of the book, the FI left me with mixed feelings. Saffy does not immediately scream “sympathetic protagonist” and her brattish reaction sparked off memories of everything that I hate about YA novels! Her anger ring didn’t quite ring true and I wasn’t convinced of her emotional maturity. Tom appeals more and I would need the story to show some major character growth of Saffy to satisfy!
Otherwise I like how the story launches the reader straight into the midst of a family breakdown and there is definite potential for both father and daughter to grow together and really cement a fragile bond. Intriguing reading for sure!
