The beginning of ‘The Colour of Shadows’ was edgy and acute, whilst remaining with a sense of fluidity in its characters and story line. The development of emotion was subtle, and the characters were crafted in an unusual way (this was helped by the book’s structure) which allowed much interpretation and freedom to the chapters.
