An intriguing start to a book about a troubled teen. Saffron is very upset because she has just learnt something incredible. She can hardly believe it. Her father has kept a closely guarded secret from her for ten years, which is set to have Saffron spiral out of control. She comes over as a likable teenager, with all the usual troubles that early adulthood brings. However, she also has learnt to cope with the loss of her mother and accept her father's new partner as her stepmother. Feeling somewhat isolated, she wishes that she can confide in her friend Tom. The awkwardness between them has grown up due to the pair maturing into young adults. Saffrons feelings for Tom have evolved and she is embarrassed by her attraction to him. This will probably become an interesting book and I think everyone's heart will go out to Saffron.
