I loved this as did my 14 year old daughter. The main protagonist, Saffron, defies the image of a heroine. On the surface she is spoilt and privileged but underneath is a scared, vulnerable girl desperate for answers. I really felt for her dad; yes he has made mistakes, but he does what he feels is the right thing for a 7 year old with no idea of the repercussions ten years later on a 17 year old.
Tom is the real hero - I loved his rapport with his boss John, his patience with Saffron and his love for Angela.
So often teen fiction and drama glamourise running away. This doesn't. It's warts and all. The heart breaking stories of the people Saffron meets are humbling to the reader; is Saffron herself a better person at the end. I certainly hope so!
