I like how the story is structured, seeing the perspective of saffron who's discovered that her mother who she thought was dead was in fact alive, and Tom who very clearly has a crush on saffron. The story reads like an internal monologue, which makes it easy to read. I enjoyed reading saffron's thoughts as I truly felt her pain.
I find the dynamic between saffron and her stepmother interesting, being forced (or strongly encouraged) to see his new wife as her new mother and their children as her half-siblings who she calls 'their children'. The feeling that she's been replaced with a new family is prevalent.
This is my first book from the author and so far I enjoy the story and structure as its a quick read. This is a modern story with real characters, going through grief, trauma, love, friendship, resentment and homelessness - this definately happens more often than we realise.
