It was just okay.
- Slight spoiler at the end -
I did want to like this book, I enjoyed the first look at this book so obviously thought I would the rest of it.
Unfortunately I struggled to push past about 50 pages and I started to find Saffron an unbearable main character. She came across completely spoilt and dramatic and it really put me off. Never less I pushed on and finished the book. I enjoyed the other characters a lot more than I enjoyed Saffron. I found myself looking forward to Toms chapters more than I did hers.
I liked how the book had a strong theme and pushed the issue of homelessness in the UK. Saffron’s opinions on them midway through the book was a little irritating for my liking although she did come to realise her ignorance a little bit towards the end.
Was a little bit annoyed I didn’t like the main character that much as obviously that’s someone you need to relate to when reading a book. One thing that did annoy me through was her reference to her step mum Melanie, or as she would liked to call her ‘Smell-an-ie’. I don’t know many 17 years olds that would continue to use stupid nicknames like that into adulthood.
I did like the ending, i expected that she wouldn’t meet her mum or would find out her mother’s true colours. She did evolve as a character which made me happy I carried on reading. She was a much more likeable character towards the end, she did still have a few annoying episodes but not nearly as much as the beginning.
Even though I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I wished I had, I am still glad I read it.
Love the cover although the book itself did start to peel for some reason.
