I was hooked initially and was surprised that I liked the story. However, I ended up feeling a bit disappointed with this one compared to Sunflowers in February and ended up not finishing it; it just didn’t keep me hooked past the first few chapters. That said, I do really like Phyllida’s writing style and would still give any of her future books a go.
In all honesty, I just don’t think I was feeling this book because I couldn’t relate very much to the character and her story, although I did like her as a character.
Whilst I wasn’t a fan of this one, I would still highly recommend Phyllida as an author - I adored her debut and I think it’s just a case of this second book just wasn’t for me.
