The subtitle on the very attractive cover ("love, lies and secrets") sounded rather like a TV soap opera but I was delighted to find that, though some of the unconsidered behaviour of the teenage Saffron is rather bizarre, the true heart of the book is well-researched and poignant. We are offered family life, loyalty, misplaced loyalty, and friendship to offset the self-centred tragedy of Saffron's obsession with the past.

We are kept involved with the unusual course of Saffron's coming-of-age adventure whilst being invited to understand and reflect upon the problems of others. And we also see Saffron's life from another angle as Dan attempts to change her mind, her decisions and her relationships.
