The Cornish Captive follows Madeleine, a woman who has been wrongfully declared insane and held captive for 14 years. After she manages to escape she has to tread carefully, unsure who she can trust.

This is the second book I have read in this series so far and I loved it! I think this may be my favourite historical fiction series and I definitely want to go back and read the books I have missed. As a Cornish girl I loved the sense of home that this book gave me. But I think the historical seaside town can be enjoyed by anyone! Pryce creates such vivid and endearing characters, I felt so connected to them and their stories. Although this book does work as a stand alone, I feel I’d understand more about some of the other characters if I had read some of the earlier books in the series first.

Regardless, I really enjoyed this novel and hope that Pryce continues to follow these characters by writing more books for this series! I often found myself sitting and picturing the old seaside town, almost as if it was one of my own memories. I found this book infiltrating my own life so much I almost couldn’t distinguish between what was real and what was fiction. At times I found the mystery and vast array of characters a little tricky to follow, but it kept me on my toes and I really enjoyed the pace of the novel.

I would recommend this series to any historical fiction fans! I want to thank Readers First, Corvus Publishers and Nicola Pryce for allowing me to read this book and give my personal thoughts.
