The Cornish Captive was my first Nicola Pryce book, I understand this is the sixth book in a series but I didn’t let that deter me from reading this book. I found it worked ok as a stand-alone piece but I do genuinely think that if I had read the others in the series it would have made me feel more committed to the book and invested in the characters than perhaps I did.
Although I enjoyed the book I did not care for the cover at all, it’s definitely not my style and it wouldn’t have been given a second look from me, much less drawn me to picking up the book from a shelf.
The book is set in the 1800’s and we meet the main character of Madeleine. I couldn’t help but like Madeleine, she’s in some tricky situations and needs a lot of questions answered and things definitely aren’t to be taken of face value.
Overall I’d say I enjoyed the story, and might read more in the future
