I do love a good historical fiction or saga novel and I was very pleased to win this book from this website, as it is just my kind of genre.
The Cornish Captive by Nicola Pryce is actually the sixth book in the series (Cornish Saga Book Six) but you don't need to read the whole series, this can easily be read and enjoyed as a standalone novel and a complete story by itself.
I loved the cover, such a pretty design and one that really gives you a flavour of the genre of the book.
It is set in Cornwall in 1800. We meet Madeleine Pelligrew, who used to be the mistress of Pendenning Hall, but has spent the last 14 years moving between increasingly worse places. When a stranger suddenly appears and frees her, she doesn't know what to do or what he wants from her. So she decides to hide who she really is.
Madeleine becomes friends with a French prisoner on parole, Captain Pierre de la Croix. But as she discovers more about her past, she begins to doubt if Pierre can be trusted.
